The Affordable Assisted Living Coalition (AALC) announces the upcoming retirement of Wayne Smallwood, to be effective December 31, 2019. Wayne has been Executive Director of AALC since 2006.
Prior to becoming ED of AALC, Wayne was employed by the State of Illinois’ Department of Healthcare and Family Services for 33 years. While at HFS, Wayne helped create the Supportive Living Program (SLP). The SLP has been acclaimed as the best affordable assisted living model in the country.
After leaving the State, Wayne entered his second career and became the ED of AALC, a position he will hold for 14 years. Wayne is considered a leading authority on the SLP and has ably lead AALC during his tenure. Wayne, through AALC, is the leading advocate of the SLP and has successfully promoted the SLP as a meaningful option for elders and persons with disabilities who need housing with services, regardless of income.
Although Wayne is retiring, he plans to keep an affiliation with AALC in a limited capacity.
AALC has formed a search committee and is in the process of finding Wayne’s successor. If interested in applying, please submit a letter of interest and resume electronically to Rod Burkett, Board President of AALC, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
